Poems & Submissions

1. Time*

Time, it sure is an important term
Everyone or everything living right
now is bound by it and it passes by
every second unconsciously

We should make out the most out of
the time given to us. We want to
play, have fun, and entertain ourselves
We are that kind of creatures!

Our life is like a “Marshmallow Story”,
we get to wait to gain something extra,
until when do we get to cross the finish line?
We don’t know, but let’s make everyday a joy.

2. Fear*

Fear is a natural feeling for
everyone who expects result for
something they’ve done. It is rare
for people to be carefree about the result.

That’s why we feel fear because
we want the result we desire, not
the result we wouldn’t want, and fear
derives from possibility of undesired result.

Fear can come from anything, our secrets, our
test results, our job interviews and lots more,
but rather if it already happened or not, we
should not be consumed by fear and not move on.

3. Reality/Distortion*

Reality, it is surely something
we have to deal with no matter
what sort of delusion we have in
our mind big or small.

We as human beings are attacked to
needs, but unfortunately full of greed
as well. We never get to find a point
where we get to say “that’s enough.”

When, our delusion and reality seems
different, we get to run away from reality
not only students, but everyone. We are faced
with two options: keep running or make our
delusion become the reality.

4. Students

We are students as of now
Our school is the workplace
Our house is the rest place
Spend 6 to 7 hours in school
then come back with homework.

Sometimes we are stunned by
the number of homework we have.
We get to spend the rest of the day
doing homework until all done.
Some students don’t get to start off
right away because of pressure of many homework.

Homework are great for reviewing
but too much homework just get in student’s way.
Each individual students have individual schedules
and more than enough homework just inhibits our schedules.

5. Luxuries

Luxury  it sure is a meaningful word
for every people of different sex,
different age and different income.
For me, I liked luxuries since
I was a kid. Which was unlike other kids.

In this world where we have abundance
of materials, anything common doesn’t
get to have any value these days.
Meanwhile, luxuries are quite different.

Luxuries come at a high price
and because of two reasons.
First being the brand name value
and the materials which defines.

Both reasons working in synergy and
for people like me who have the urge
to buy feel temptation to buy and
don’t get to know how to stop the urge.

6. Money*

Money,  it if something vital
in our society and more is better.
We’ve got to get our first taste
of money when we got allowance as a kid.

We got to pay a certain amount of money
to get the service equivalent to the amount.
Yet our allowances are usually less than
what most adults make and technically
we are using our parent’s money in our name.

Me personally, I cannot buy expensive products,
even if I have saved up enough allowance,
for myself or to my parents as I’m
using up my parent’s money. The time
when I will have total control of money
is near and yet I don’t know if I will
earn enough money for my lifestyle.

7. Fad

Fad, it is something that is always there
we sometimes get to be a part of it
or not and just get a slight look at it
or just ignore it even if it is there
There is always person who is into
one of the fads and we call them a nerd
and there are people who think nerd is weird
and can’t understand what one is into
Nerds are more than average entertainer
some love one in another dimension
even after “they are not real” you mention
and some are super duper serious gamer.
I can say nerds do those things to be happy
even if no-one understands why they’re happy.

8. Happiness*

Happiness, it is surely what all
people want in their entire lifetime.
Even though, if we want to be happy
and are happy is a totally different story.

To be happy, we got to choose one out of
two options we have. One, is to be happy
with the current situation, and second is
to make the future you want by working for it.

Happiness is what every people must need to
sustain their life. Without happiness, we feel
like our life is meaningless. We wish we are all
happy as life is a meaningful present given to us.

Title explanation of "Do Seek Their Meat from God."

The title of Roberts' short story, "Do Seek Their Meat from God" is a biblical allusion from the King James Bible, Psalm 104:21 which is "The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God". This verse, in biblical explanations means the God feeds every creatures fairly, not just sheeps and lambs, and lions roar in this case to thank the God for food given by him. However, in Roberts' short story, the title is interpreted different from the bible. In the story, panthers who roar, thanking the God for the human meat of a crying kid, get killed by the hunter who unintentionally saves his son. This is an unfair treatment to panthers as they lost their food because of settlers changing the environment and even if they get to find food, they get killed by the settlers. In the hunter's perspective, it is viewed as panthers are threatening the crying child and he gets to take out the gun to kill the panthers and save the child who he later figures out was his son. The irony is the cry of the child brought the child the meat of panther, while the roar of panthers brought them nothing in the end.

In short, the novel brings up the idea of "Is God really feeding every creatures fairly?" If God was really fair, the panthers wouldn't have died just because of the reason that they were searching for food. Or the novel can bring up the basic of idea of "Do God really exists in the first place?" Nevertheless, we can summarize the theme of the story as "The world is unfair" as the world was truly unfair to the panthers in the story.

First Post

The movie which is still memorable to me is called "Train to Busan", a zombie movie by a Korean director Yeon Sang-ho who used to create animated movies. The movie was a major hit in Korea with a total of 11,564,524 audiences in total and it was screened in Vancouver 2 months ago.

The movie sets in place in Seoul, South Korea where the main character named Seokwo Seo working in a stock firm as a fund manager. Seokwo Seo has a daughter named Suan Seo, and he is a terrible dad as he is busy with his own job and have his mom raise her most of the time. He divorced with his wife not so long ago and his daughter wanted to go to Busan where her mother lives. The main character took a rest and with his daughter got into a KTX, a Korean rapid bullet train, bound for Busan at Seoul Station. At the same time, an infected person got into the train as of instinct for survival and the infection inside the KTX begins.

Personally, I think it was a masterpiece as action scenes were impressive, showed a bitter satire on Korean society and I got to understand each characters' conflicts. Each and every scene in the movie was thrilling and hard to foresee what was coming. If you want to watch it, go and buy or rent a DVD if available and see it for yourself.
